Few days back, the tech giant Apple released a new version of its code editor and IDE: Apple Xcode 7.3 Beta released. The latter version of the editor is released with multiple enhancements and improvements, including better code completion and support for Swift toolchains. Since Apple recently offered an open source version of its Swift programming language, it was only natural that Xcode’s upcoming versions will offer more room to play with for Swift coders, and Xcode 7.3 Beta does not disappoint.
Since the day of release, XCode is quite famous among the developers and coders when it comes to developing applications for iOS devices such as iPhones, iPads, and not the forget, the Apple Watch. The open source Swift programing language by Apple is well-liked because of new APIs and other embedded resources. Alike Xcode 7, the version 7.3 Beta is also expected to gain immense popularity.
The beta version of Xcode ensures code completion in fewer keystrokes, or at least that’s how apple has designed it. It is designed to offer relevant suggestion based on what you are working on:
Apple has started swift.org, wherein in the blog, The Swift Team states,
“Code completion provides better matches with fewer keystrokes and makes it easier to find what you’re looking for. You can type just the uppercase letters of a method name. Typing “myDelegate.tveh”, where myDelegate is a UITableViewDelegate, gives tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, estimatedHeightForRowAtIndexPath indexPath: NSIndexPath) -> CGFloat as the first completion. You’ll also get completions that better match your intent, so typing “myView.color”, where myView is a UIView, gives every property containing the “color” substring, like “tintColor” and “backgroundColor”.
Along with enhanced code completion and support for Swift toolchains, the beta version of Apple Xcode 7.3 released also comes with several bug fixes and patches. However, there are some limitations as well. If you are working with alternative Swift toolchains in Xcode 7.3 Beta, former features such as playground and code migration will no longer work.
